Our Johannesburg factory operates state-of-the-art extrusion and injection moulding lines, producing PVC conduit, fittings, and related electrical accessories. The Dynamic Distributors group also includes subsidiaries Mr. Electric and Ogatin, which serve the retail market.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Assistant Factory Manager to support the Factory Manager in running our Johannesburg manufacturing operation. Reporting to the Factory Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with production supervisors and machine operators to keep the factory running smoothly day to day, step in during the Factory Manager's absence, and take ownership of specific production areas or projects as delegated.

This role is well-suited to a candidate with strong production floor experience who is ready to take on more management responsibility, with a clear path to grow into a senior factory leadership role over time.

This is a full-time, on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating daily production schedules to meet output and quality targets
  • Supervise production staff on the floor, providing direction, training, and support to operators and assistants
  • Monitor machine performance, product quality, and waste levels, escalating issues as needed
  • Help implement and uphold quality control procedures across extrusion and injection moulding lines
  • Support compliance with health, safety, and MEIBC requirements
  • Assist with stock control, raw material usage tracking, and liaison with the warehouse and procurement
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimise downtime
  • Step in to manage the factory during the Factory Manager's absence
  • Take ownership of continuous improvement projects as assigned
  • Provide accurate production reports and updates to the Factory Manager

Education

  • National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience in a production environment

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a production or factory environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team-leader role
  • Direct experience in PVC extrusion or injection moulding (preferred)
  • Prior experience in the electrical manufacturing industry will be an advantage
  • Experience working within a MEIBC or unionised environment will be beneficial

Skills & Competencies

  • Solid understanding of production processes, quality standards, and safety requirements
  • Strong supervisory and people-management skills, with the ability to lead from the floor
  • Practical, hands-on problem-solving approach
  • Good communication skills across all levels of the workforce
  • Computer literate; ERP exposure (Syspro advantageous)
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work under pressure
