Export Manager
Reports to: Customs Affairs Operations Manager

We’re looking for an Export Manager who will be responsible for the daily control and management of the Customs Exports department, which includes maintaining and developing DHL’s Gateway Customs Affairs standards, thus ensuring an excellent service to the network and satisfying and meeting our customers’ needs.
What you’ll own
Customer Focus
- Ensure continuous improvement of customer satisfaction through effective customer service initiatives and strategies.
- Drive service performance that meets and exceeds customer expectations, positioning DHL ahead of competitors.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, handling escalations and ensuring swift resolution of export-related issues.
- Manage interactions with external business partners and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure all outbound clearances comply with applicable customs legislation and DHL standards.
- Oversee the control and management of export customs cases, including SARS Stops, ensuring timely resolution and compliance.
- Ensure every outbound shipment is processed accurately and within defined DHL quality parameters.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of export regulations, compliance standards, and customs requirements.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor daily export operations to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to service performance benchmarks.
- Ensure regional service standards are consistently met or exceeded across all DHL Operations scorecards.
- Identify bottlenecks in the export process and drive corrective actions to improve service levels and transit times.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective resource utilisation and optimal performance.
Process Improvement
- Continually review and refine export processes to improve productivity and enhance the value of DHL services.
- Develop, recommend, and implement process enhancements to drive efficiency and ensure maximum operational performance.
- Lead initiatives to optimize export customs processes, ensuring alignment with best practices and business objectives.
Key Relationships
- External: Customers, regulatory bodies, customs authorities
- Internal: Operations, Customer Service, Customs Affairs, Gateway teams, and other relevant departments
What we are looking for
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Customs, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in export operations, customs, or logistics management.
- 5-7 years’ experience in a management role within express or logistics and driving operational performance
- 5-7 years’ experience with Courier Imports
- Strong understanding of customs regulations, especially SARS export requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
