Excavation Laborer / Dig Crew MemberPosition Overview
Killeen Plumbing Company is seeking hardworking, dependable individuals to join our excavation and sewer repair team. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying physically active, and learning skilled trades. No prior excavation experience is required—we will provide on-the-job training for motivated candidates.
Our crews typically start work at 8:00 AM each day. This is not a traditional 8-to-5 position. We work until the job is complete, so end times can vary depending on the scope of work, weather conditions, and project requirements. Applicants must be flexible and prepared for occasional longer days.
Responsibilities
- Assist excavation crews with sewer and water line repairs and replacements.
- Perform heavy manual labor, including digging, shoveling, grading, and site cleanup.
- Load and unload tools, equipment, materials, and debris.
- Assist with trench preparation, pipe installation, and backfilling operations.
- Operate hand tools, compactors, jackhammers, and other construction equipment as directed.
- Follow all safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site.
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and safely.
- Assist with restoration of landscaping, driveways, sidewalks, and other disturbed areas.
Qualifications
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry 75+ pounds repeatedly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely around excavation equipment.
- Flexibility to work varying end times depending on job completion requirements.
- Valid driver’s license preferred but not required.
- Construction, landscaping, plumbing, or excavation experience is a plus but not necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of heavy materials.
- Repetitive bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and digging.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Working in trenches, uneven terrain, mud, and varying weather conditions.
