Job Description
The NSPCA is seeking an experienced and dedicated Equine Inspector to join its national inspectorate, based in Alberton. The position requires extensive travel and the ability to operate in challenging environments, applying sound judgement, professionalism, and resilience at all times. The ideal candidate has strong equine knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a structured national team, contributing directly to improving the welfare and protection of equines.
Roles and Responsibilities
This frontline role focuses on the protection of horses and other equines through the investigation of welfare concerns, and the enforcement of animal welfare legislation across South Africa.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Proven, hands-on experience with horses and other equines across different contexts
- Strong understanding of equine welfare, behaviour, and common welfare concerns
- Ability to investigate complaints and apply animal welfare legislation with sound judgement
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict management
- High level of professionalism, resilience, and emotional maturity in challenging environments
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a national inspectorate structure
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work irregular hours when required
- Valid South African driver’s licence and a clean criminal record
- A genuine commitment to improving the welfare and protection of equines
