Purpose

The Company Group Fintech Corporate Affairs seeks to appoint a consultant to provide strategic and operational support on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability matters across the Fintech portfolio. The consultant will support the development, implementation, reporting and communication of ESG and sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment with Company's Group's sustainability commitments, stakeholder expectations, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.

The consultant will work closely with Corporate Affairs, Operating Companies, Sustainability leads, Human Resources, Risk and Compliance teams to strengthen ESG governance, sustainability reporting, stakeholder engagement and impact measurement across the Company Group.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be required to:

ESG Strategy and Governance

  • Support the development and execution of The Company Group Fintech's ESG and Sustainability strategy and roadmap.
  • Assist in embedding ESG principles into business planning, decision-making and operational processes.
  • Support governance structures, frameworks and reporting processes relating to sustainability and ESG oversight.
  • Conduct benchmarking exercises against global ESG best practices, industry peers and emerging trends.

Sustainability Programmes and Impact Management

  • Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of sustainability initiatives across The Company Group Fintech and its operating companies.
  • Develop frameworks and methodologies to measure the social, economic and environmental impact of key programmes.
  • Support ESG-related projects, campaigns and partnerships that advance financial inclusion, digital inclusion, responsible business practices and community development.
  • Assist in tracking ESG targets, key performance indicators (KPIs) and commitments.

Reporting and Disclosure

  • Coordinate the collection, validation and consolidation of ESG and sustainability data from operating companies and business functions.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability reports, ESG disclosures, board reports and executive updates.
  • Assist in ensuring alignment with relevant reporting standards and frameworks, including GRI, SASB, ISSB, UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other applicable frameworks.
  • Support responses to ESG ratings agencies, investor requests and stakeholder information requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of ESG and sustainability priorities.
  • Support engagement with regulators, investors, development partners, NGOs and industry bodies on sustainability-related matters.
  • Facilitate workshops, awareness sessions and stakeholder forums to build ESG capability across the organisation.
  • Assist with the development of sustainability narratives, thought leadership and advocacy positions.

Communications and Reputation Management

  • Work with Corporate Affairs to develop ESG and sustainability communications, including executive messaging, internal communications, media content and stakeholder materials.
  • Support the development of sustainability content for The Company Group Fintech channels, annual reports, websites and social media platforms.
  • Identify and promote sustainability success stories and impact-driven initiatives that strengthen The Company Group Fintech's reputation and positioning.
  • Support ESG-related campaigns and flagship programmes, including employee volunteerism and sustainability awareness initiatives.

Monitoring and Insights

  • Monitor ESG and sustainability trends, emerging regulations and stakeholder expectations across Africa and globally.
  • Provide regular insights and recommendations to leadership on material ESG developments and risks.
  • Conduct ESG materiality assessments and support stakeholder mapping exercises where required.
  • Produce periodic reports highlighting ESG performance, risks, opportunities and recommendations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Corporate Affairs, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Human Resources, Procurement and Operating Companies to ensure a coordinated ESG approach.
  • Support ESG capability-building across the organisation through the provision of guidance, tools and templates.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of sustainability objectives.

Key Deliverables

  • The consultant will be expected to deliver:
  • ESG and Sustainability Strategy implementation support.
  • Quarterly ESG performance dashboards and progress reports.
  • Sustainability impact measurement framework and reporting tools.
  • ESG stakeholder engagement plans and materiality inputs.
  • Sustainability disclosures and reporting support.
  • ESG communications and thought leadership content.
  • Executive and Board-level sustainability updates.
  • ESG monitoring reports and trend analyses.
  • Recommendations for continuous improvement and ESG maturity advancement.

Skills and Expertise

The ideal consultant should possess:

  • 7–10 years' experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate affairs, stakeholder relations, development finance, responsible business or related disciplines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Business, Communications, Public Policy or a related field. A postgraduate qualification will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainability strategy development, ESG programme implementation and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of international ESG frameworks and sustainability disclosure standards.
  • Experience working within financial services, fintech, telecommunications or other highly regulated industries.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret data and convert insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple markets and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong project management capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English essential; French advantageous.

Engagement Model

  • Consultant to be embedded within The Company Group Fintech Corporate Affairs.
  • Hybrid working arrangement (3x days in-person office attendance), with attendance at key meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagements as required.
  • Monthly progress updates to the Group Senior Manager: Corporate Affairs and PR.
  • Initial contract period: 6–12 months, subject to business requirements and performance for renewal.
