Role Purpose
To maintain, repair, and troubleshoot all electrical systems and equipment across the hotel, ensuring guest safety,
operational continuity, and compliance with electrical standards. You will respond promptly to guest room issues, support
preventative maintenance programs, and work alongside the engineering team to keep the hotel running smoothly at all
times.
What You Will Do
1. Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
Diagnose and repair electrical faults in guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and outdoor facilities including
the pool area
Replace faulty lighting fixtures, switches, sockets, and circuit breakers throughout the property
Troubleshoot and repair hotel appliances including refrigerators, microwaves, kettles, toasters, and laundry equipment
Maintain and repair kitchen equipment in coordination with the culinary team (ovens, griddles, exhaust systems,
dishwashers)
Respond to guest room electrical complaints (e.g., no power, non-working lights, malfunctioning TV or mini-bar) with
urgency and professionalism
2. Preventative Maintenance
Execute scheduled preventative maintenance programs for all electrical systems and equipment
Conduct regular inspections of distribution boards, wiring, earthing systems, and backup power sources
Test and maintain emergency lighting systems, fire alarm systems, and exit signs
Perform routine checks on generators, automatic transfer switches, and UPS systems
Maintain accurate logs of all inspections, tests, and maintenance activities
3. Generator & Power Management
Operate and maintain backup generators, including weekly load tests, fuel level monitoring, and oil changes
Ensure seamless transition between mains power and generator power during outages
Monitor and maintain the hotel's electrical distribution system to prevent overloads and power fluctuations
Report any power quality issues or potential failures to the Chief Engineer immediately
4. Guest Room & Public Area Support
Respond to maintenance requests from Front Desk and Housekeeping within agreed timeframes (e.g., 15 minutes for
emergency calls)
Resolve guest-reported electrical issues with minimal disruption to the guest experience
Maintain a professional appearance and courteous demeanor when entering guest rooms
Ensure all public area lighting (lobby, corridors, parking, pool, restaurant) is fully functional at all times
5. Health, Safety & Compliance
Adhere strictly to all electrical safety regulations and hotel safety policies
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) for all electrical work
Ensure all repairs and installations are completed to Kenyan electrical standards and hotel brand requirements
Report any unsafe conditions, exposed wiring, or potential fire hazards immediately
Participate in hotel safety drills and engineering on-call rotation as required
6. Inventory & Tools Management
Maintain an organised workshop with all tools properly stored and in good working condition
Track and request replacement parts, bulbs, and electrical components as needed
Report low stock of critical spares to the Chief Engineer in a timely manner
Minimise waste by repairing components where possible rather than replacing
7. Inter-departmental Coordination
Work closely with Housekeeping to prioritise room maintenance based on check-in schedules
Coordinate with Front Office to access guest rooms at convenient times
Support the wider engineering team with non-electrical tasks when required (e.g., plumbing, painting, general repairs)
Assist with event setups requiring temporary power or lighting
Who You Are
Experience
3-5 years of experience as an electrician, preferably in a hotel, hospital, or commercial facility
Proven experience with electrical troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance
Experience with backup generators and electrical distribution systems is highly desirable
Working experiance in a coastal environment is desirable.
Education & Certification
Trade Test Certificate Grade I, II, or III in Electrical Installation
Diploma in Electrical Engineering is an advantage
Valid Kenya National Electrotechnical Certification (KNEC) or equivalent
Current practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority
(EPRA) is highly desirable
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, generators, and control panels
Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics
Proficiency with testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers)
Basic understanding of plumbing, painting, and general maintenance is an advantage
Languages
Mandatory: Fluent English
Highly desirable: Basic Swahili for team communication
