Job Description
Yabonga would like to employ a full-time Driver who will serve as the Respite Driver and support the Community Mother Programme. The driver will be based at our Children’s Centre in Khayelitsha.
Your Responsibilities Include (but Are Not Limited To)
- Responsible for fulfilling all driver-related needs of the Respite Unit, including transporting children to and from school, clinic visits, and any other Respite-related requirements (Monday–Sunday, as required)
- Delivery and collection of all food supplies, including regular deliveries to centres in Khayelitsha, Crossroads, and Mfuleni (but not limited to these areas), as well as purchases, general supplies, and paperwork
- Assisting with food parcels, including collection from Head Office in Plumstead when required, and delivering them to the relevant centres
- Driving Yabonga visitors, funders, and staff to support centres and work-related functions
- Transporting staff, children, and equipment to camps (based in Wellington), as required
- Monitoring maintenance of Yabonga vehicles and keeping records (cleaning, daily checks, adherence to speed limits)
- Always adhering to the rules of the road while driving a Yabonga vehicle Ad hoc duties, including staff transport, deliveries, and support for camp trips as required
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintenance of Yabonga vehicles (bakkie and Rumion / Quantum) and keeping Yabonga vehicles clean
- Assisting with food parcels / party packs when needed
- Keeping a log of all driving and mileage done and filling the cars up with petrol· Keeping a record of all deliveries and to whom it was delivered to (with appropriate signatures)
- Handing in of vehicle keys at the end of the working day·
- Driving Respite team around to get necessary paperwork signed by caregivers for Respite Unit
- All passengers including the driver travelling in Yabonga vehicles will wear a seat belt. This is the responsibility of the driver of the vehicle.
- Respite vehicle to only be used for transport the Respite children to and from school / home or clinic visits
- To make sure this vehicle is maintained, always filled up and kept clean at all times.
- Weekend driving for Respite outings may be required when needed, as part of programme support.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Reside in the Khayelitsha area
- Valid Police Clearance certificate
- Valid PDP and driver’s license with experience (experience driving children would be advantageous)
- No history of speeding or reckless driving
- Speak, read and write English and IsiXhosa
- Comfortable driving in township areas of Cape Town
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
