Position Details
POSITION: Director of Facilities, Operations, and Safety (Cabinet Level, Administrative Level – Reports to the Superintendent)
CALENDAR: 52 weeks, starts in March, 2026
SALARY & BENEFITS: $110,000+ – Annual salary will be commensurate with education and work experiences. Full benefits package including State pension program, annuity, medical, dental and vision coverage.
POSITION PURPOSE: The Director of Facilities, Operations, and Safety is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the District’s facilities, maintenance, custodial services, and grounds-keeping operations. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of all District buildings by managing facilities staff, overseeing capital planning, maintaining compliance with regulations, and implementing operational improvements. The Director will collaborate with District leadership, school administrators, and external partners to develop cost-effective facilities management strategies that align with the District’s operational goals. Additionally, this role provides oversight for school safety initiatives, planning, and compliance.
Qualifications And Skills
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related ?eld.
- Holding current MSBO’s CFD/Facilities Director and/or COD/Operations Director certificate(s) preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years of leadership experience in Facilities Management, Maintenance, or Operations, preferred.
- Leadership & Team Management: Experience managing large teams and multiple facility-related departments.
- Operations & Budget Oversight: Strong budgeting, financial planning, and cost control expertise.
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Knowledge of building codes, environmental laws, and safety regulations.
- Project & Construction Management: Experience with capital projects, facility renovations, and infrastructure planning.
- Problem-Solving & Crisis Response: Ability to quickly address facility issues and emergencies.
- Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration: Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee District-wide maintenance, custodial, and grounds-keeping operations to ensure buildings and grounds remain safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure timely response to emergency maintenance issues and facility-related concerns.
- Oversee custodial operations, including cleanliness standards, sanitation practices, infection control measures, and staffing efficiency across all facilities.
- Manage custodial scheduling, staffing, and operational efficiency across multiple locations.
- Maintain structural integrity, safety, energy efficiency, and operational effectiveness within all buildings.
- Develop and enforce quality control standards to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
- Ensure effective coordination between custodial, maintenance, and operations teams to support school programs, special events, and facility rentals.
- Plan, manage, and oversee facility construction, renovation, and multi-year capital improvement projects from design through completion.
- Oversee energy efficiency initiatives including the District’s BASS Energy Management System, and sustainability programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, MIOSHA, ADA, environmental standards, fire safety codes, AHERA requirements, HVAC inspections, and related mandates.
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive school safety, security, and emergency preparedness plans with school administrators and local public safety partners.
- Oversee physical security systems, including access control, surveillance, alarms, and emergency communication systems.
- Supervise facilities, maintenance, custodial, and operations staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring responsible financial planning, cost control, and efficient use of resources.
- Clearly communicate and interpret District policies, procedures, and facility-related regulations.
- Collaborate with principals, school leadership, and event coordinators to ensure facilities effectively support District programs.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, contractors, and municipal agencies.
- Provide reports, data, and recommendations to the Superintendent and District leadership as required.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.
