Job Summary:
To assist the Diamond Drill Operator with the safe and efficient operation of the diamond drilling rig, handling drill rods, core samples, equipment, and site preparation activities to ensure drilling targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with rig setup, operation, and dismantling.
- Handle and add/remove drill rods during drilling operations.
- Assist with casing installation and recovery.
- Monitor drilling fluids and water supply.
- Help move drilling equipment and consumables.
- Remove and recover core from core barrels.
- Place core correctly in core trays.
- Label and mark core boxes as instructed.
- Maintain core quality and prevent sample loss or contamination.
- Assist geologists with core management.
- Clean and maintain drilling equipment.
- Assist with routine maintenance and lubrication.
- Check hoses, pumps, tools, and drilling accessories.
- Report equipment defects and breakdowns.
- Assist with drill pad preparation.
- Set up water lines and sumps.
- Load and unload drilling materials and supplies.
- Support rig mobilization and demobilization activities
Education
- Grade 10-12 (Matric) preferred.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Experience
- Previous drilling, mining, construction, or labouring experience is advantageous.
- No experience may be required for entry-level positions.
Skills and Competencies
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
- Ability to work long shifts and in remote locations.
- Good communication skills.
- Teamwork and willingness to learn.
- Strong safety awareness.
