Design Office Manager – Libya Project
For our large-scale, high-standard superstructure project newly commencing in Libya, we are seeking a Design Office Manager who will be responsible for managing the design process end-to-end, ensuring interdisciplinary coordination, and effectively leading outsourced design teams.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Design Process Management (Outsourced Design)
Overall management of all design activities within the project scope (architectural, structural, MEP, etc.)
Direction, coordination, and performance monitoring of outsourced design consultants
Ensuring that design deliverables comply with contract requirements, budget, and project schedule
Early identification of technical risks and design gaps throughout the design process
2. Interdisciplinary Coordination
Ensuring coordination between architectural, structural, MEP, and other disciplines
Ensuring that all design outputs are fully coordinated and constructible on site
Managing interfaces and resolving clashes
3. Shop Drawing and Implementation Processes
Planning and managing all shop drawing processes
Technical review and management of approval processes for shop drawings prepared by subcontractors
Ensuring preparation of required shop drawings in-house for works executed directly by the contractor or where no subcontractor is involved
Preparation and maintenance of as-built drawings
4. Material Submittal and Approval Processes
Managing all material submittal processes
Verifying technical compliance, brand/model accuracy, and conformity with contract requirements
Managing approval processes with the Employer and Consultant
Early identification of long-lead materials and coordination with procurement
5. BIM and Digital Coordination
Monitoring and, where required, managing BIM processes within the project
Ensuring interdisciplinary coordination through BIM models
Managing clash detection processes
Effective utilization of BIM outputs (models, shop drawings, quantity take-offs, etc.)
6. Change Management and Value Engineering
Tracking design changes and analyzing their impacts
Developing alternative solutions in terms of cost and constructability
Proposing optimization opportunities (value engineering) to enhance project value
7. Integration with Site Execution
Ensuring constructability of the design
Incorporating technical feedback from site teams into the design
Providing timely and effective solutions to issues arising during construction
8. Reporting and Coordination
Preparation of design progress reports
Reporting critical design matters to senior management
Leading technical coordination meetings with Employer, Consultant, and other stakeholders
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture
Minimum 12–15 years of experience in design / project office roles
Experience in large-scale superstructure projects (hotels, shopping malls, hospitals, mixed-use developments, etc.)
Proven experience in outsourced design management and design coordination
Advanced knowledge of shop drawings, construction drawings, and detailing
Experience in subcontractor management and technical coordination
Proficiency in BIM processes (preferably Revit, Navisworks, etc.)
Proficiency in AutoCAD and other design software
Strong technical understanding linking design, cost, and construction
Strong interdisciplinary coordination and problem-solving skills
Preferably with international project experience
Fluent English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory
