About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Counter Salesman to join our dynamic team. In this frontline sales role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for walk-in customers, external sales representatives, and incoming inquiries, driving sales while delivering exceptional service in our fast-paced engineering supply environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve walk-in customers at the counter by greeting them promptly, understanding their needs, recommending suitable engineering products/supplies, and processing sales transactions efficiently.
- Respond to customer emails and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, providing accurate product information, quotes, and order updates.
- Handle incoming phone calls, answer technical questions about products, take orders, and resolve issues to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Assist external sales representatives by preparing quotes, checking stock availability, coordinating orders, and supporting their customer requirements.
- Upsell and cross-sell related products to maximize sales opportunities and meet targets.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked counter area.
- Accurately process orders, payments, returns, and deliveries while adhering to company procedures.
- Collaborate with warehouse and internal teams to ensure timely fulfillment and resolve any discrepancies.
Requirements
- Proven sales experience in a retail, trade counter, or customer-facing environment (minimum 2–3 years preferred).
- Essential: Prior experience in the engineering supply sector, industrial supplies, hardware, tools, components, or a closely related field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or industrial distribution).
- Strong product knowledge of engineering supplies, tools, fasteners, bearings, pneumatics, or similar industrial items.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers.
- Confident handling of emails, phone calls, and customer queries in a professional manner.
- Ability to multitask in a busy environment while maintaining accuracy and a positive attitude.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office, email, quoting software), and willingness to learn company-specific systems.
