What You’ll Do
As a Correctional Officer, you will help maintain the safety and security of the facility while supervising residents and supporting daily operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise residents in housing units, work assignments, dining areas, and recreation
- Maintain order and enforce facility rules and policies
- Conduct security checks, resident counts, pat-downs, and searches for contraband
- Escort residents safely throughout and outside the facility as required
- Monitor behavior and prepare reports on incidents and security concerns
- Respond to emergencies using approved safety procedures
- Operate radios, restraints, and other security equipment
- Provide first aid or CPR when necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Successfully complete the written exam and physical fitness test
- Pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening
- No felony convictions
- No DUI convictions within the past 24 months
- No drug use or possession convictions within the past 60 months
Preferred Qualifications
- Correctional Officer Certification (earned through KDOC Basic Training)
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Military, law enforcement, corrections, or security experience
