Job Title: Cook required for new restaurant in Westville
Role Overview
The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, consistent meals in a fast-paced deli/café environment. This role focuses on speed, cleanliness, presentation, and maintaining the flavour standards of the brand, especially for deli items, light meals, and takeaway orders.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook menu items (e.g. sandwiches, wraps, curries, grills, breakfast items)
- Follow standard recipes and portion control guidelines
- Ensure consistent taste, quality, and presentation
- Assist with prep (chopping, marinating, sauces, spice blends if applicable)
Kitchen Operations
- Maintain a clean, organised workstation at all times
- Ensure food is prepared quickly during busy service periods
- Monitor stock levels and inform supervisor of shortages
- Assist with receiving and storing stock properly
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Follow all food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Ensure correct food storage (FIFO method)
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and surfaces
- Wear appropriate uniform and PPE
Teamwork & Service
- Work closely with front-of-house staff for smooth service
- Communicate clearly during busy periods
- Support other kitchen staff when needed
Requirements & Skills
Experience
- Previous experience as a cook (minimum 3-5 years required)
- Experience in a deli, takeaway, or café environment is a strong advantage
Skills
- Good understanding of basic cooking techniques
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain speed
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Basic knowledge of food safety standards
