Overview of position:
The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals to a high standard while following established recipes, food safety guidelines, and quality standards. This role supports daily kitchen operations by ensuring timely food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and working effectively with the kitchen team to deliver consistent, well-presented dishes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook menu items according to catering menus, recipes, and portion guidelines
- Assist with food production for events, including preparation for large volumes
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations at all times
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating stock correctly
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and food preparation areas
- Support chefs and catering managers during event preparation and service
- Assist with packing, loading, and unloading food and equipment for off-site events when required
- Adhere to dietary, allergen, and special event requirements
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a cook or kitchen assistant in catering or hospitality
- Basic culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong time management and attention to detail
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends and events
Job Requirements:
- Matric advantageous;
- Relevant tertiary qualification in hospitality is advantageous;
- 2+ years Cook experience within a medium to large corporate company is essential;
- Ability to work flexible hours;
- Neat and presentable;
- Good communication skills (Must be able to speak English and Afrikaans fluently).
