About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and driven Certification Manager to join a leading international certification body. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing certification operations, accreditation compliance, auditor competence, operational performance, and certification decision processes across multiple industry sectors.

This role requires a strong operational leader with extensive knowledge of ISO standards, accreditation requirements, and certification body operations within an accredited environment.

The Certification Manager will play a key role in ensuring operational excellence, maintaining accreditation compliance, supporting continual improvement initiatives, and achieving financial and operational targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Certification & Accreditation Management
  • Manage certification activities in accordance with:
  • ISO/IEC 17021-1
  • IAF Mandatory Documents
  • SANAS accreditation requirements
  • Internal certification procedures
  • Review and approve certification recommendations and technical justifications.
  • Manage accreditation audits, witness audits, internal audits, and corporate audits.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with international standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain the integrity, impartiality, and consistency of certification processes.

Operational Management

  • Oversee certification operations including:
  • Technical reviews
  • Certificate issuance
  • Audit scheduling coordination
  • Customer agreement reviews
  • Operational reporting
  • Monitor operational KPIs and certification performance indicators.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of certification records and controlled documentation.
  • Coordinate and support Customer Service Planning and Audit Administration teams.

Auditor Management & Competence

  • Monitor auditor competence, utilization, and scope approvals.
  • Coordinate auditor evaluations, witness assessments, and annual auditor training.
  • Support competency development and ongoing professional development initiatives.

Quality & Risk Management

  • Maintain and improve the organization’s management system.
  • Manage nonconformities, corrective actions, complaints, and appeals.
  • Participate in Impartiality Committee activities and management reviews.
  • Ensure effective risk identification and mitigation relating to certification activities.

Financial & Revenue Accountability

  • Manage operational budgets relating to certification activities.
  • Monitor annuity income and recurring certification revenue streams.
  • Conduct monthly revenue reviews and operational financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing of certification services.
  • Drive achievement of monthly revenue targets and operational financial KPIs.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Customer Service Planning, and Audit Administration teams to support revenue growth and operational profitability.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualifications
  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Training in international standards and certification processes

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within:
  • Certification bodies
  • Accreditation environments
  • Auditing and quality management systems

Experience in:

  • Certification decision-making
  • Technical review processes
  • Auditor management
  • Operational management
  • Minimum 5 years experience as Manager

Technical Knowledge

Strong knowledge of:

  • ISO/IEC 17021-1
  • IAF Mandatory Documents
  • SANAS accreditation requirements
  • ISO standards including:
  • ISO 9001
  • ISO 14001
  • ISO 45001
  • HACCP
  • ISO 13485

Knowledge of:

  • Certification lifecycle management
  • Audit methodologies
  • Risk management
  • Corrective action processes
  • Competence management
