The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category procurement strategies that deliver value through cost optimisation, quality improvements, supply assurance, and operational efficiency. The role partners with business stakeholders to align procurement strategies with organisational objectives, build strong supplier relationships, manage procurement risks, and drive continuous improvement across assigned procurement categories.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Business Management, or a related field.
• CIPS Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (or equivalent professional procurement qualification) is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years’ strategic procurement/category management experience.
• Proven experience managing procurement categories and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Experience in supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and vendor performance management.
• Experience managing complex procurement projects and driving business improvement initiatives.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems, e-sourcing platforms, procurement analytics, and digital procurement tools.
• Strong understanding of procurement principles, contract management, and supplier governance.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and implement category strategies that align with organisational objectives and deliver sustainable value.
• Lead strategic sourcing activities, including market analysis, supplier evaluations, tender processes, and contract negotiations.
• Identify, implement, and monitor cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality, service levels, and supply continuity.
• Build, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers to drive performance, innovation, and long-term value.
• Negotiate commercial agreements, pricing structures, service levels, and contractual terms with suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance through defined KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives where required.
• Develop and maintain a procurement benefits pipeline, tracking savings, cost avoidance, and value delivered.
• Analyse procurement spend, market trends, and supplier performance to support informed business decisions.
• Identify and mitigate procurement and supply chain risks to ensure business continuity.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and provide strategic procurement support across the organisation.
• Lead and support procurement transformation initiatives, including process improvements, digital procurement solutions, and change management activities.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, governance standards, contractual obligations, and applicable legislation.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and support to the Sourcing Specialist to ensure effective delivery of procurement activities.
• Prepare procurement reports, category reviews, and presentations for senior management, highlighting performance, risks, and opportunities.
• Remain informed of industry developments, emerging technologies, and procurement best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
