Job Title: Building Engineer – Retail Properties
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Building Engineer to support the day-to-day maintenance and appearance of retail shopping centers. This position is responsible for general property upkeep, light repairs, emergency response, vendor oversight, and maintaining safe and clean conditions throughout the properties.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Portering and general property upkeep
- Manual parking lot sweeping and debris removal
- Spot mowing and landscape touch-up work
- Monthly cleaning and preparation of vacant suites
- Emergency response services, including lockout postings and fire-related incidents
- Performing miscellaneous jobs for landlords and tenants as needed
- Alley and common area cleanup
- Spot painting and touch-up work
- Installation of leasing banners and property signage
- High dusting in common areas and vacant spaces
- Reporting and coordinating repair of property damages (mailboxes, stop signs, etc.)
- Minor façade and exterior repairs
- Repairing and replacing weather stripping
- Identifying and reporting liability or safety concerns to Property Management
- Coordinating with vendors and contractors when necessary
- Maintaining professional relationships with tenants and responding to maintenance requests
Qualifications:
- Prior commercial property maintenance or building engineer experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting, and general repair work
- Ability to use common maintenance tools and equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license preferred
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials/equipment as needed
- Availability for occasional emergency calls after hours
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with retail shopping centers or commercial properties
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple properties/projects
