Race Coast is seeking a Broadcast Technician who will assist the Broadcast Engineer with routine maintenance, setup, and troubleshooting of broadcast systems to ensure the technical integrity of television broadcasts.

What You’ll Do

Equipment Rigging and Maintenance

Tasks:

  • Assist in rigging and de-rigging of OB and studio setups.
  • Check and report faults in camera and audio systems.
  • Support ComputaForm camera setups and tests.

KPIs:

  • 100% of equipment ready and operational by race day start time.
  • All faults reported to engineer within 1 hour of detection.
  • Weekly rigging completed without errors or rework.

Support Technical Operations

Tasks:

  • Assist Broadcast Engineer in OB van compliance and rigging requirements.
  • Implement basic emergency procedures when faults occur.
  • Ensure cables, connectors, and minor equipment are maintained.

KPIs:

  • Minimal interruptions due to technician error.
  • Contingency measures applied correctly in 100% of emergencies.
  • Cable and connector faults identified and reduced.

Collaboration and Learning

Tasks:

  • Work under guidance of engineer and senior staff.
  • Document technical issues and resolutions.
  • Participate in team training sessions.

KPIs:

  • Minimum 1 training/refresher session attended quarterly.
  • All major incidents logged within 24 hours.
  • Positive feedback from engineer on support effectiveness.

Technical Setup for Special Events

Tasks:

  • Assist in rigging and configuring additional equipment for high-profile or offsite productions.
  • Work with engineering team to test and verify portable studio setups.
  • Ensure readiness of all auxiliary systems (backup power, cable extensions, monitors, etc.).

KPIs:

  • 100% of special event setups completed by call time.
  • No more than 1 minor technical oversight per quarter during special events.
  • All special event gear tested and signed off in pre-event checklist

Equipment Movement and Logistics

Tasks:

  • Track and safely transport equipment between Greyville, Scottsville, and storage.
  • Assist with setup/load-in/load-out procedures for OB van and drone operations.

KPIs:

  • 100% return of listed items per movement log.

· Gear loaded and rigged within scheduled time for 95% of race meetings

What You’ll Need

· Matric /Grade 12

· Bachelor of Broadcast Engineering (NQF 7)

· 10 years of experience in television broadcast

· Cable handling and signal flow basics

· Signal quality control

· Broadcast environments (TV, live production, OB vans)

· Cable management (coiling, labelling, fault identification)

· Use of connectors (BNC, XLR, power connectors, etc.)

· Must be able to work under pressure in a live TV environment.
