SUMMARY:

Branch Manager – Industrial Laundry Operations

Location: Cape Town

Department: Operations

Reporting To: General Manager

Position Type: Permanent | Middle Management

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Branch Manager to oversee the full operational function of our industrial laundry facility. This role is responsible for end‑to‑end production and service delivery, including collection, sorting, repairing, washing, drying, folding, packing, loading, distribution, and customer deliveries.

The successful candidate will lead a large, multi‑disciplinary team and be accountable for operational efficiency, profitability, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities

Profitability & Financial Management

  • Manage and optimise financial resources to maximise return on investment.
  • Control labour, raw materials, utilities, chemicals, and equipment costs.
  • Compile and manage operational budgets and monitor fixed, variable, and Capex expenditure.
  • Maintain wage and salary costs within approved budgets.
  • Review and calculate pricing structures to ensure competitive and profitable margins.

Production & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all production processes across the branch.
  • Set and monitor hourly and daily production targets by area and machine.
  • Investigate operational deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure production schedules are compiled, communicated, and optimised.
  • Monitor plant efficiency (kg processed per labour hour).
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity and quality standards.

Distribution & Logistics

  • Ensure optimal truck loading and efficient route planning.
  • Implement effective systems to manage inbound and outbound logistics.
  • Ensure secure, accurate, and timely deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate administration and tracking of all distribution activities.

Sales & Customer Service

  • Strengthen client relationships to drive customer retention and contract renewals.
  • Oversee complaint resolution and ensure timely feedback to clients.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and implement improvement actions.
  • Support sales activities, including new business, renewals, and installations.

People Management

  • Lead, coach, and manage branch staff performance and conduct.
  • Handle grievances and disciplinary matters in line with policy.
  • Plan labour effectively to reduce overtime and casual labour costs.
  • Identify training needs and align development with the skills plan and budget.
  • Maintain accurate time, attendance, and payroll records (Payspace).

Administration & Reporting

  • Analyse operational, financial, distribution, sales, and HR reports.
  • Take corrective action when deviations occur.
  • Compile monthly management, Exco, and Board reports.

Legislative & Standards Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Ensure HR and IR compliance with BCEA and LRA requirements.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, administrative systems, and ELCB compliance.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Plant efficiency (kg processed per labour hour)
  • Customer retention rates and complaint resolution
  • Cost per kilogram processed (labour, utilities, chemicals vs budget)
  • Regional financial and operational performance targets

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate qualification in Engineering, Finance, Business, or Production.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in factory or production operations.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a middle‑management role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ SHEQ experience with strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of factory equipment, machinery, and production processes.

Working Environment
