Overall Purpose of the Job
The Bending Operator will primarily be responsible for operating bending machines to shape metal components according to design specifications, playing a critical role in the production of structural parts for trailers.
Education (Formal Qualification Required)
Minimum
Grade 12
Legal Requirements (e.g. Driver’s license, verifications, competence evaluation etc.)
Minimum
Verifications: ITC, ID & Criminal, License (if applicable) etc.
Training and Knowledge
Minimum
Basic understanding of mechanical principles and measurements.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Experience in handling and bending various types of metals.
Knowledge of bending techniques, machine setup, and operation.
Understanding of metal properties and behavior during bending processes.
Familiarity with safety procedures and practices in a manufacturing environment.
Training in basic machine operation and maintenance.
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Experience (Minimum Experience Required – type and number of years)
Minimum Minimum time spent in job
Proven experience as a Bending Operator or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in metal fabrication or trailer manufacturing. ±2 year

KPA / Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position Detailed Description Outcome
Competence Machine Operation
Operate bending machines (e.g., press brake, tube benders, plate rollers) to bend and form trailer parts to required dimensions.
Positions and clamps end stops on machine to set specified location of bend.
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications.
Identify and report any quality issues or material defects to supervisor.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues regarding production status and issues.
Machine Maintenance/Equipment
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines for operating bending machines and handling materials.
Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or deviations and perform basic maintenance.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisor.
Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organised work area. Operate and maintain bending machine to ensure precise bending of metal components, uphold quality standards and maintain a safe and organised work environment while effectively communicating any issues or maintenance needs to Supervisors.
Discipline and Conduct Team Collaboration: Collaborating with other team members, such as production staff and Supervisor to complete tasks as instructed.
Compliance: Adhering to safety regulations and company policies.
Discipline and General conduct: Maintaining a high level of discipline, adherence to Company Policies. Increase in discipline and reduction in misconduct /Improve attitude, effectiveness, teamwork and morale.
Attendance Reliable Attendance: Employee must demonstrate a consistent and punctual attendance record. Decrease in unplanned absenteeism, resulting in improved production and less operational disruptions.
