Role Description: This is a full-time, on-site Baker role based in Waterfall, City, Midrand. The Baker will be responsible for preparing, mixing, proofing, baking, and finishing a variety of baked goods in accordance with established recipes and quality standards. Daily tasks include measuring ingredients, operating baking equipment, monitoring baking times and temperatures, decorating and packaging products, and ensuring consistent product quality and presentation. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe workstation, adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations, managing stock rotation of baking ingredients, and assisting with inventory checks. The Baker will collaborate with the broader culinary team to support menu development, test new recipes, and meet production schedules for client engagements and events.
Qualifications
- Strong bakery and baking skills, with experience producing a range of baked goods in a professional or high-volume environment. Bread baking experience essential.
- Proficiency in food preparation, including measuring, mixing, and handling ingredients safely and efficiently.
- Experience baking cookies and similar confectionery items, with attention to texture, flavour, and appearance.
- Ability to bake and finish bread products, including shaping, proofing, and baking a variety of loaves and rolls.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards, with a commitment to cleanliness and organisation.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, sometimes with early morning or flexible shifts.
- Collaborative mindset and effective communication skills to work well within a diverse kitchen and consulting team.
- Formal training or certification in baking, pastry, or culinary arts is advantageous, as is experience in hotel, restaurant, or catering settings.
