Role Description
This is a full-time, remote role for a Backup Backend Engineer. You will design, implement, and maintain backup and recovery mechanisms for backend services, databases, and storage systems that power the Barqly platform. Day-to-day work includes developing and optimizing backup scripts and services, monitoring backup jobs, validating restore procedures, and ensuring data integrity and availability. You will collaborate closely with backend engineers, DevOps, and security teams to define retention policies, disaster recovery strategies, and performance standards. The role also involves diagnosing production issues related to data resilience, improving observability and alerting around backups, and contributing to documentation and runbooks for incident response.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in backend programming (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, or similar) and experience building or maintaining production APIs and services.
- Hands-on experience with databases and storage systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL stores, object storage) and designing effective backup and restore strategies.
- Comfort with cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure, Terraform, or similar) for automating backup and disaster recovery workflows.
- Proficiency with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools to track backup status, performance, and reliability.
- Understanding of security, compliance, and data protection best practices related to backups and data retention.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation, runbooks, and implementation guides for backup and recovery procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a systematic approach to testing and validating restore scenarios.
- Experience working in distributed, remote teams with effective written and asynchronous communication.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; prior experience in high-availability or on-demand platforms is a plus.
