Automation Engineer – Microsoft Business Applications / Automation
Up to ZAR 50,000 per month + benefits
Cape Town – Hybrid, 2-3 days in office
Permanent, full-time
A UK-based Microsoft Solutions Partner is hiring an Automation Engineer for their Cape Town team. They have serious depth across Microsoft cloud, Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, security, business applications and AI, with a South African team playing an important role in their UK operation.
This is a good move for someone who enjoys practical automation and integration work, but does not want to be boxed into one tiny slice of a system. They are acquisitive, change-heavy and busy, which means the automation backlog is real: new integrations, CRM/ERP process improvements, workflow changes, data mapping, vendor coordination and plenty of opportunity to learn.
The role sits in their Enterprise Business Systems function, between architecture and engineering. They need someone who can take a high-level design or business requirement and turn it into something clear, buildable, tested and useful.
The Role
- Build and improve automations across Workato, Power Automate, Dynamics 365, Power Platform and third-party systems.
- Translate high-level designs into low-level specifications, work packages, data mappings, test plans and implementation tasks.
- Support integrations between CRM, ERP, marketing and wider back-office systems.
- Consult with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and document them clearly for architecture and delivery teams.
- Configure workflows, business rules and system changes that reduce manual effort and improve data quality.
- Work closely with third-party providers and internal engineers to deliver changes against agreed standards.
- Produce clear documentation, operational guides and training material for new features or changes.
- Keep reliability, testing, security and continuous improvement front and centre.
What They’re Looking For
- Cape Town based and able to work from the Century City office 2-3 days per week.
- Hands-on automation or integration experience using Power Automate, Workato, Make.com, n8n, Zapier, MuleSoft, Logic Apps or similar.
- Good understanding of workflow logic, APIs, data mapping, business rules and how systems talk to each other.
- Exposure to Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Dataverse, model-driven apps, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams or Entra ID would be a strong match.
- Able to turn requirements or high-level designs into low-level specifications and build tasks.
- Advanced Excel skills for formulas, data analysis, troubleshooting and business-rule modelling.
- Strong documentation, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Nice to have: Workato experience, Microsoft Partner/MSP background, AI/Copilot exposure, SQL/JavaScript/Python/Ruby literacy, or relevant Microsoft certifications.
Why Apply?
- Up to ZAR 50,000 per month, depending on experience.
- Hybrid Cape Town setup with 2-3 days in the Century City office.
- A chance to learn Workato while building on Power Automate, D365 and wider integration experience.
- Close access to architecture, with genuine ownership of delivery
- Busy, high-change environment where there is always another process to improve
- Benefits include medical aid contribution, pension, annual leave, birthday leave, learning platforms and an international working policy after qualifying service.
- Small team, visible impact and a strong Microsoft ecosystem around them.
If they want an automation role where they can build useful integrations, learn enterprise iPaaS tooling and work close to architecture in a serious Microsoft environment, this is worth a conversation.
