Role Purpose

This is not a traditional business development role.

We are seeking a proven business originator with a demonstrable track record of creating, converting, and closing high-value cross-border opportunities. This position is designed for a commercially driven professional who takes direct ownership of revenue generation and market development.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in executing Hawksford's Africa growth strategy, positioning Mauritius as a leading jurisdiction for Africa-linked investment, corporate structures, funds, and private client solutions.

The Opportunity:

Hawksford is building a clear commercial strategy positioning Mauritius as the conduit for Africa-linked capital, structures, and clients. This role sits at the centre of that strategy.

Principal Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Originate and convert cross-border mandates across corporate, funds and private client structures
  • Build and activate intermediary-led deal flow across South Africa and broader Africa
  • Position Hawksford as a go-to execution partner for Africa-linked structures via Mauritius

Key Performance Indicators:

This is a commercially focused, revenue-generating role.

Success will be measured by:

  • New business revenue generated
  • Quality and conversion of pipeline
  • Strength of intermediary network and repeat deal flow
  • Ability to originate complex, multi-jurisdictional mandates

Mandatory Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • You will only be considered if you can demonstrate:
  • A proven track record of originating and closing business (not supporting or enabling)
  • Direct ownership of pipeline and revenue generation
  • An active and credible intermediary network (law firms, tax advisers, fund managers, sponsors)
  • Strong experience across South Africa and/or broader African markets
  • Exposure to Mauritius as a structuring jurisdiction OR demonstrated capacity to operate credibly in that environment.
  • Experience operating at a senior, client-facing level

Unsuitable Backgrounds:

This role is unlikely to be suitable for candidates whose experience has been primarily focused on:

  • Operational, delivery, or administration-led
  • Compliance, governance, or internal facing
  • Relationship management without clear revenue origination responsibility

Candidates who have not personally won and closed business opportunities will not be considered for this position.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Developing and executing a Mauritius–Africa corridor growth strategy
  • Originating opportunities through both direct client engagement and intermediaries
  • Leading commercial discussions, proposals and negotiations
  • Working with internal teams to ensure mandates are executable and scalable
  • Representing Hawksford in key Africa-focused forums and networks
