Job Description
This entry-level role supports the implementation of regulatory compliance and governance practices within the business unit. The incumbent assists with compliance monitoring activities, regulatory tracking, reporting and awareness initiatives, gaining practical exposure to compliance risk management processes. The role contributes to maintaining adherence to applicable legislation and internal policies under supervision, while building professional capability in the compliance discipline. The position reports directly to the Business Unit Compliance Officer.
Role Purpose:
Provide operational and administrative support to the Compliance Officer to help implement compliance risk management and monitoring activities across the stakeholder areas, while developing foundational compliance capability and regulatory knowledge.
Key Result Areas / Outputs
The key result areas of the Assistant Compliance Officer will be to assist the Compliance Officer Advanced or Senior Compliance Officer with:
- Compliance Monitoring Support
Assist in executing approved compliance monitoring activities in line with the annual compliance plan.
Support the preparation of monitoring documentation, worksheets and compliance files.
Perform basic compliance checks and reviews under guidance.
Capture monitoring results accurately within the Governance, Risk and Compliance system (CURA).
- Regulatory Tracking & Administration
Support the tracking of legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business unit.
Maintain regulatory registers, compliance calendars and documentation repositories.
Assist in updating compliance risk management and monitoring plans as directed.
- Reporting & Documentation
Assist in drafting compliance reports and preparing supporting information for review.
Capture, track and follow up on remediation actions arising from monitoring activities.
Maintain accurate compliance records and audit trails.
- Compliance Awareness & Learning Support
Support the coordination and delivery of compliance awareness initiatives and training logistics.
Assist with the preparation of communication material relating to regulatory requirements.
Build foundational knowledge of applicable legislation relevant to the business unit.
- Stakeholder Support
Provide administrative and operational support to the Compliance Officer in engaging with business stakeholders.
Assist in monitoring adherence to policies and procedures through routine review activities.
Escalate identified issues or potential non-compliance to the Compliance Officer.
- Professional Development
Progress toward a recognised compliance qualification.
Develop working knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to the financial services environment.
Build capability in compliance monitoring methodologies, tools and governance practices.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Grade 12
- Studying towards or completed a legal qualification – will be an added advantage.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or studying towards a compliance or related qualification.
- Studying towards or awarded the Compliance Institute’s (CISA) professional designation of a Compliance Practitioner – will be an added advantage
Specific Experience Required:
- 3 Years industry experience
- Experience in ensuring compliance within a Business Unit for a Life Insurance Company, will be an advantage
- Basic understanding of regulatory environments within financial services (advantageous)
- Strong attention to detail and administrative capability
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with structured processes and follow guidance
- Proficiency in MS Office

- Report Writing: Ability to write reports to operational management
- Presentation skills: Ability to present to operational management
