Our client is seeking a strong visionary Farm Manager to lead their management of all operations on their farm based in Libya. You will be required to have extensive experience with Alfalfa.

Key Responsibilities:
General Farm Management:
- Oversee all farm activities including operations and development.
- Provide direct and/or indirect supervision, depending on the agricultural program or farming operation being managed, to the team on the farm.
- Liaise with relevant external consultants on an as needed basis.
- Assist the Managing Director and the Management Team in planning and budgeting for all agricultural programs.
- Plan and coordinate, in conjunction with Management, the purchasing of farm equipment, machinery, supplies, spare parts and services.
- Plan and administrate the farm’s Health Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) program and empower the appointed HSSE representatives to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures and particularly in response to an incident and subsequent corrective actions arising from it.
- Oversee all training programs for safety, job skills, equipment maintenance, field machinery operations, crop health and related issues in conjunction with the appropriate managers.
- Oversee, evaluate and maintain status reports on all ongoing activities.
- Monitors all crop management and fertilization activities, chemical application scheduling, soil conservation and crop harvesting.
- Plans for break crop rotations in conjunction with the Managing Director,
- Management Team and External Advisors to ensure best utilization of the land, determines the best crops to plant, planting, fertilizing and harvesting.
- Responsible for compliance and maintenance of the farm’s environmental policy and specifically relating to waste management, black and grey water, used oils and lubricants and scrap metal, cables and piping etc.
- Coordinates and manages all operations to maximize productivity and yield while always being laser focused on cost management.
- Responsible for implementing the company’s regenerative agriculture strategy through a deliberate, well defined and approved plan which does not affect productivity and yield in the short term.
- Be prepared to assist the Managing Director regarding the company’s plans for expansion on site and in remote locations.
- Responsible for managing the supply chain of moving the hay bales from the farm to the off taker’s port of unloading. Working closely with the company’s logistics officer in Benghazi, this will include land transportation to the company’s site in Benghazi, loading the hay bales into containers and delivering them to the port for loading and monitoring of the shipment’s safe passage to the port of unloading.
Financial Management:
- Responsible for all on-the-farm direct costs.
- Oversee the monitoring and recording / reporting of all on farm expenditure.
- Assist Finance in implementing a robust ERP and financial reporting tool for the business.
- Provide recommendations regarding investments, procurement, disposals / write- offs and cash management.
- In conjunction with Finance, provide all support needed to prepare monthly accounts and reports on the performance of the farm and be prepared to join the Managing
- Director from time to time to report on the farm’s progress and expansion plans.
- Provide all support for the preparation of the annual budget process, report and presentation and specifically around the production of a cashflow report, capex request and opex adjustments to suit the farm’s planned operations for the following year.
- Ensure full compliance with the company’s policies regarding all matters finance to include but not limited to cash management, procurement, supplier management, disposals and write-offs etc.
Production/Quality Assurance:
- Maintain accurate documentation of production and quality control data and records.
- Ensure a robust routine for soil, water and sap analysis is implemented to improve productivity and yield of the crops, reduce costs and establish long term benefits for soil, water and plant health.
- Direct production activities to ensure safety and compliance with quality control standards, regulatory compliance, and lease / rental agreements.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with the highest standards of hygiene and specifically with regards to food, water and waste management.
- Responsible for the quality control of the production coming from outgrowers involved in the company’s trading business. This shall be implemented through the
- Assistant Farm Manager who will be the company’s Outgrower Representative.
- Critical to this responsibility is in ensuring the outgrowers meet their production, yield and quality targets consistently.
HR Management:
- Has overall responsibility for hiring, directing, assigning and evaluating farm personnel.
- Build and maintain a successful high performing team capable of working in a multi- cultural environment.
- Assist in employee and field staff development training.
- HR policy development and documentation.
Employee / management relations.
- Incorporate and encourage multi-cultural workforce policies.
- Performance management and improvement systems.
- Company-wide team facilitation including planning, production and staff including arranging meetings, briefings and events.
- On an annual basis in support of the end of year financial reporting and budgeting process, provide Management with a plan and recommendations for managing the team in so far as size, salary review and bonuses based upon KPI / deliverable achievements etc.
Marketing:
- Assist the Group’s Marketing Manager with all support and information to assist with offtaker, partner and investor presentations, events, meetings and calls to include updates to the website and its associated marketing materials.
- Be prepared to join the Managing Director in presenting the company to potential offtakers, partners and investors.
- Responsible for any offtaker, partner or investor who visits the farm.
- Work closely with the Management Team for the sale of all hay being sold into the local market to ensure the best possible prices are achieved.
Administrative Management:
- In conjunction with Finance, oversee the establishment of a robust recording, reporting and information / document storage process of all policies and procedures and operations on the farm.
- Work closely with the company’s representative to install all the necessary IT, communications, security and software systems necessary for the effective management and operation of all the farm’s activities.
- Coordinate with Government and specifically the Ministry of Agriculture with regards to any requirements for inspection, license / permit issuing and renewals.
- Ensure Finance are managing the relationship with the General Electricity Company to ensure utility bills are being issued, reconciled and paid.
