Role Summary
This role is responsible for driving the execution of AI initiatives within a large-scale last-mile delivery environment. The focus is on translating high-level strategy into tangible operational outcomes across logistics, finance, operations and technology teams.
You will operate as an execution lead, working directly with senior leadership while driving delivery across cross-functional teams. The expectation is rapid impact, with visible wins within the first 4–6 weeks.
This is a high-accountability role suited to someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves quickly, and takes full ownership of outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy to Execution Translation
- Convert high-level AI initiatives into clearly defined problems, workflows, and execution plans
- Break down ambiguous concepts into actionable tasks for operational teams and engineers
- Define success criteria and measurable outcomes for each initiative
2. End-to-End Delivery Ownership
- Drive initiatives from concept through to production and adoption
- Coordinate across operations, finance, IT and engineering teams
- Ensure progress is consistent and blockers are actively resolved
- Escalate only when necessary, with clear context and recommendations
3. AI-First Execution Approach
- Use AI tools (e.g. Claude, Codex, and similar) to:
- Prototype solutions
- Draft workflows and logic
- Accelerate delivery before engineering involvement
- Act as a force multiplier, reducing time from idea to implementation
4. Cross-Functional Influence
- Drive alignment across teams without direct reporting lines
- Challenge assumptions and push back where execution and priorities diverge
- Act as a credible execution partner to senior leadership
5. Continuous Prioritisation and Improvement
- Identify higher-impact opportunities during execution
- Recommend adjustments to initiatives based on operational realities and data constraints
- Ensure focus remains on initiatives with measurable business value
6. Adoption and Operational Integration
- Ensure solutions are embedded into daily workflows
- Translate outputs into clear processes and operating procedures
- Drive usage across teams, not just delivery of tools
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Preferred), Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or Business Science or similar
- 5–8 years in execution-focused roles (consulting, product, or operations)
- Proven track record of delivering cross-functional initiatives in ambiguous environments
- Experience working with both business stakeholders and engineering teams
- Demonstrated ability to operate without formal authority
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in real work environments
- Ability to independently structure solutions, workflows, or prototypes using AI
Nice to have:
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Data Science, AI, Operations Research, MBA with strong analytical focus)
- Certifications or demonstrable training in Data analytics or data engineering, Product management, AI / machine learning
- Logistics, supply chain, or last-mile delivery industry exposure
- Experience working with legacy systems or fragmented data environments
- Background in operations or product roles
- Exposure to operational optimisation problems
This role requires someone who can operate independently, challenge constructively, and deliver under pressure. There is minimal ramp-up time. The expectation is immediate contribution and rapid execution.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: R80 000,00 – R95 000,00 per month
