Position Summary
The Accreditations & Compliance Officer provides operational, administrative, and project support across accreditation, revalidation, quality assurance, and compliance activities within the higher education sector.
Working closely with the Quality & Regulatory Manager, the successful candidate will support the coordination of regulatory submissions, accreditation projects, institutional reporting, documentation management, and stakeholder engagement activities. The role plays an important part in ensuring that institutional obligations to educational quality assurance, accreditation, and professional bodies are met through effective planning, organisation, and follow-through.
Primary Responsibilities
Accreditation & Revalidation Support
- Coordinate accreditation, re-accreditation, and revalidation activities across multiple regulatory and professional bodies.
- Manage accreditation project plans, timelines, trackers, and documentation repositories.
- Compile and coordinate self-evaluation reports, validation documentation, and supporting evidence.
- Support preparation for accreditation reviews, site visits, panel reviews, audits, and interim monitoring activities.
- Monitor accreditation cycles and ensure institutional deadlines are met.
Compliance Monitoring & Reporting
- Support the development and maintenance of compliance trackers, reporting logs, and quality assurance records.
- Coordinate annual and periodic reporting requirements to regulatory and professional bodies.
- Ensure regulatory evidence is appropriately stored, accessible, traceable, verifiable, and up to date.
- Maintain records in accordance with institutional record-retention and data protection requirements.
- Assist with internal compliance reviews and quality assurance monitoring activities.
Regulatory & Professional Recognition Support
- Support applications, renewals, and ongoing compliance requirements relating to professional recognitions and regulatory approvals.
- Maintain a central reference repository of regulatory standards, requirements, and obligations mapped against institutional programmes.
- Monitor changes to relevant regulatory frameworks and support implementation of resulting actions.
- Assist in maintaining institutional readiness for audits, reviews, and regulatory engagements.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
- Act as a central coordination point between academic, operational, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Issue reminders, guidance, timelines, and progress updates relating to regulatory obligations and accreditation activities.
- Coordinate meetings, working groups, and documentation requests across multiple projects.
- Support initiatives that promote a culture of quality assurance, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
Key Competencies & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.
- Experience supporting accreditation, programme approval, programme review, institutional compliance, quality assurance, or regulatory reporting activities within higher education.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex documentation, evidence portfolios, regulatory submissions, audits, reviews, or compliance processes.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders in a professional environment.
- Experience maintaining regulatory records, trackers, and audit-ready documentation.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements within an educational environment.
Desirable
- Experience working with South African higher education and skills-development regulatory frameworks.
- Experience engaging with bodies such as the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), Council on Higher Education (CHE), South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), or relevant SETAs.
- Experience working within a CATHSSETA-related sub-sector, education provider, training provider, or professional education environment.
- Experience supporting accreditation, programme approval, re-accreditation, monitoring, or audit activities.
- Understanding of transnational education and multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments.
- Experience working within a private higher education institution.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement frameworks.
