We are shortlisting capable candidates on behalf of our client, Markh Investment Co. Ltd, a Ugandan logistics and cargo transport operator with twenty years in the market. With a sizeable fleet and a track record built across two decades of moving freight regionally, Markh Investment is now sharpening its financial systems, strengthening controls, and professionalising the finance function to match the scale of the operation.
The role
Markh Investment is hiring an Accountant to bring discipline, control, and system thinking to the finance function of a mature logistics business. Based in Kampala, on-site, contract.
You will own the books across a fleet-heavy operation, trip revenue and receivables, driver float reconciliations, fuel accounting and variance analysis, spares and workshop inventory, supplier payments, payroll, statutory filings (URA, NSSF, PAYE, WHT, VAT), and monthly management accounts against budget. You will partner with operations to protect margin where it's actually made and lost fuel, tyres, spares, overtime, and trip profitability per truck and per route. This is not a role for someone who wants to process transactions and go home. It's a role for an Accountant who wants to tighten a mature operation, close the leakages, and see the impact in the P&L.
What you bring
- 4–6 years of hands-on accounting experience, with at least 2 years in logistics, transport, fleet, manufacturing, or another asset-heavy operation
- Strong technical foundation, reconciliations, AP/AR, inventory and fleet asset accounting, payroll, and full statutory compliance (URA, NSSF, PAYE, WHT, VAT)
- Real exposure to cost control, you've computed cost per km, revenue per truck, fuel consumption variances, or equivalent operational unit economics
- Working fluency with at least one accounting system (QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, Xero, or similar) and strong Excel (pivots, lookups, basic modelling)
- CPA(U) or ACCA, fully qualified preferred; finalist with strong experience considered
- A controls mindset, you can spot a fuel slip that doesn't match the route, a supplier invoice that's been paid twice, or a driver float that's been rolling uncleared for six weeks
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline
- Maturity and composure, this is a seat that requires professional pushback with operations, drivers, and suppliers without breaking relationships
