Job Summary
Safari Group of Companies is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounts Assistant to support the finance department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with company financial policies and statutory requirements. The ideal candidate should possess strong accounting knowledge, excellent numerical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced multi-business environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate accounting records, ledgers, and supporting documentation.
- Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Assist in posting journal entries, invoices, receipts, and payments.
- Reconcile bank statements, supplier statements, and petty cash records.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Prepare payment vouchers, cheques, and electronic fund transfers.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on customer payments.
- Maintain accurate debtor and creditor records.
Cash & Petty Cash Management
- Manage petty cash transactions and prepare periodic reconciliations.
- Assist in monitoring cash flow and daily cash balances.
- Ensure all cash transactions are properly authorized and documented.
Payroll Support
- Assist in payroll preparation by compiling attendance, overtime, and deductions data.
- Support statutory deductions processing (PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, pension, etc., if applicable).
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll information.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports and management accounts.
- Support budget preparation and expense monitoring.
- Provide accounting data for audits and financial reviews.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure proper filing of financial documents for easy retrieval.
- Support tax compliance and statutory filings.
- Assist during internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and financial controls.
Administrative Support
- Respond to finance-related inquiries from internal departments and suppliers.
- Assist in procurement documentation and invoice verification where required.
- Perform any other accounting or administrative duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
- CPA Part II / ACCA equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum 1–3 years’ experience in accounting or finance support.
- Experience in a group of companies / multi-entity business environment is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, ERP systems).
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general computer skills.
